Ukrainian drones hit an energy plant pipeline in western Russia – Many homes without heating and hot water

Ukraine and Russia have stepped up attacks on each other's energy infrastructure in recent weeks

Newsroom October 31 01:06

The western Russian city of Oryol has restricted its supply of heating and hot water after Ukrainian drones struck a pipeline at a local energy facility, local authorities said.

“We will have to limit the supply of heating and hot water to buildings in the Sovetsky, Zheleznodorozhny, and Severny districts of Oryol,” Oryol Region Governor Andrey Klychkov wrote on social media.

Ukraine and Russia have intensified attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure in recent weeks as peace talks remain stalled.

Meanwhile, the Financial Times reported that the United States has canceled a summit that was scheduled to take place in Budapest between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, following Moscow’s continued hardline stance on demands related to Ukraine.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces shot down 130 Ukrainian drones overnight, mostly over western regions and from the Yaroslavl and Moscow areas.

Local officials also reported that infrastructure was damaged in the city of Vladimir, while a kindergarten in Yaroslavl, about 280 kilometers northeast of Moscow, was forced to close during a drone attack.
