The number of victims from Typhoon Kalmaegi in the Philippines has risen to 40, authorities reported Tuesday afternoon (4/11). The powerful storm brought torrential rains and flooding across central regions, submerging homes and forcing thousands of residents to evacuate.

This is the aftermath in Talisay City, Cebu, where the city appears almost completely washed away.

Although Kalmaegi has weakened since it made landfall early Tuesday morning, it continues to sweep across the Visayas Islands with sustained winds of 130 kph and gusts up to 180 kph, moving toward northern Palawan and the South China Sea.
