Rupert Grint wrote a letter to the new Ron of “Harry Potter”: I handed over the baton to him, in a way

"It's quite strange that the cycle repeats," said the actor who starred in all eight Harry Potter movies

Rupert Grint wrote a letter to the new Ron of “Harry Potter“: He handed over the baton to him, in a way.

Rupert Grint, who starred in all eight Harry Potter movies, wrote a letter to the new Ron. The 37-year-old actor spoke to the BBC about the letter he sent to Alastair Stout before the young actor began filming the HBO series.

Rupert Grint reached out to new Ron Weasley actor Alastair Stout before HBO's #HarryPotter series started filming.

"I wrote him a letter before they started, passing the baton as it were. It was really just wishing him all the best with it. I had so much fun stepping into this… pic.twitter.com/jfd3odFGii

Grint portrayed Ron from 2001 to 2011. In the reboot of the series, Stout will appear in that role, alongside Dominic MacLachlan as Harry and Arabella Staunton as Hermione.

“I wrote him a letter before they started, handing over the baton, in a way,” Grint said. “It was really just to wish him the best. I had such a great time entering that world, and I hope he has the same experience… It’s quite strange that the cycle repeats. I’m really curious to see how it will be,” he explained.

Grint acknowledged that there is no resemblance between him and Stout, adding: “I think it’s great that it’s something completely new. It will be his own thing, and I think that will be fun,” he emphasized.

Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter in the film franchise, communicated similarly with the actor taking on the iconic role. Radcliffe said on “Good Morning America” a few days ago that he wrote a letter to MacLachlan and received back “a very sweet note.”

“I don’t want to be a shadow over these kids’ lives, but I just wanted to write to say, ‘I hope you have a great time, and even better than I did — I had an amazing time, but I hope you have an even better one,'” Radcliffe said. “And I really mean it, I just see these pictures of him and the other kids, and I just want to hug them. They look so small. I look at them and think, ‘Oh, it’s crazy that I did that at that age.’ But it’s also incredibly tender, and I hope they’re having a great time,” he added.

Grint noted to the BBC that even with the new adaptation of “Harry Potter,” he will continue to be in the shadow of Ron Weasley. “I’m okay with that. I think it’s wonderful,” he said. “I like meeting people who really felt that this was part of their childhood. It has quite a deep meaning for many people of my generation, and even more for generations discovering it now. It’s wonderful. It makes me very proud. It was something huge. I don’t think I’ll ever really get out of his shadow, but I’m okay with that,” he commented.
