Newsroom December 1 04:14

Relatives and friends are devastated by the death of 24-year-old Sotiris, a descendant of the family behind the chocolate company “Leonidas,” who lost his life in a car accident in Loutsa.

The 24-year-old lived in Belgium where he was doing his postgraduate studies and had come to Greece because his girlfriend was graduating, according to his father.

“I learned what happened the next day. I live in the countryside and my brother came and picked me up. I still don’t understand what happened,” the 24-year-old’s father told Star TV.

“My ex-wife and my daughter were discharged from the hospital, but everyone is in a bad state,” he added. “I have a daughter and my little Sotiris. He was living in Belgium, doing his postgraduate studies and working at the chocolate store. He had come for two days because his girlfriend was graduating, and someone hit my kids. We didn’t harm anyone. An angel left us.”

At the same time, the 21-year-old girlfriend of the 24-year-old is in critical condition in the ICU of KAT after surgery for the serious injuries she sustained. The mother of the 29-year-old driver who caused the accident apologized to the victim’s family, stating she was in shock.

The 21-year-old was seriously injured when the 29-year-old driver, moving at a dizzying speed, crashed into the young man, his girlfriend, and family members as they were getting out of their parked car. She was immediately transferred to KAT hospital with a head injury and an open tibia fracture.

According to information, she underwent neurosurgery by a specialized team and was then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, where she remains in serious condition. Doctors are closely monitoring her, and the coming hours are considered critical.

“You killed a person – My ear hurts”

A woman who was at the scene of the fatal accident in Loutsa minutes after the 24-year-old was struck gave a shocking account. She said on ANT1 TV, “It was shocking that when a member of the ambulance team told the driver ‘You killed a person,’ his reply was, ‘Yeah? My ear hurts.'”

“I don’t think he realized what he had done. I saw him fine, not in shock, just checking if his car was damaged. I don’t think he understood anything,” the witness added.

When asked if the 29-year-old driver showed any emotional reaction, she said, “Not at all. Everyone else was upset except him.”

She also said, “At first, I heard the noise. Someone who knew CPR was called, and since I know it, I went down in the first 5-10 minutes. I checked the young man’s carotid artery and thought he was dead. His mother was in shock, holding his girlfriend who had head and leg injuries.”
