Trump disappointed with Putin’s absurdities, says Nigel Farage

British politician and close ally of Trump called the agreement proposed in Ukraine to end the war "bad"

Newsroom December 5 04:07

Donald Trump is “disappointed” with Vladimir Putin‘s “irrational” attitude in peace negotiations over the war in Ukraine, said Nigel Farage, the British politician who is a close ally of the US president.

Farage stressed that the US president is making every effort to secure a fair deal on Ukraine, but noted that current proposals that limit the size of the Ukrainian armed forces and provide for a cession of territory to Russia are not acceptable. “Putin proves with every passing week that he is not reasonable, that he does not want a fair solution and, frankly, he is extremely dangerous,” Farage told reporters.

According to Politico, Farage said that Ukraine has been offered a bad deal under which it would be forced to accept restrictions on the size of its military, conditions usually imposed on a country that has signed an “unconditional surrender.”

Referring to the political situation in Ukraine, Farage said Volodymyr Zelensky‘s position was being challenged because of a corruption scandal. However, he stressed that Kiev cannot “give up territory for which tens of thousands of lives have been lost defending it.” “The agreement as it stands at the moment does not work and cannot be implemented,” he added.

Farage noted that his statements were not a criticism of Trump’s efforts to reach a ceasefire, noting that the US president is a “pacifist” who is making every effort to secure a fair deal. “I admire him a lot for that and I know how frustrated he is by Putin’s lack of common sense,” he said.
