Mitsotakis to Tasoulas: I believe farmers will soon withdraw from the roadblocks

The Prime Minister outlined the measures of the Budget, which was passed yesterday, stressing that the government is achieving surpluses thanks to growth and is returning part of them to society

Newsroom December 17 11:50

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is currently meeting with the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, at the Presidential Palace, as part of their regular monthly briefings.

The Prime Minister briefly described the measures of the Budget that was passed yesterday, emphasizing that the government is achieving surpluses thanks to economic growth and is returning part of them to society. At the same time, he expressed hope that the farmers’ roadblocks would be lifted soon, saying that no matter how fair their demands may be, farmers must understand that they cannot hold society hostage ahead of Christmas.

Subsequently, the Prime Minister will welcome members of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group at 13:00 at the Maximos Mansion.

The meeting takes place in the aftermath of the approval of the state budget for 2026, and against the backdrop of the tensions the agricultural issue has caused within New Democracy, as especially MPs from rural constituencies are coming under pressure from local communities while the protests continue.

Later, Mr. Mitsotakis will travel to Brussels, where he will take part in the EU–Western Balkans Summit. On Thursday, the Prime Minister will participate in the proceedings of the European Council Summit.
