Symbolic roadblocks and blockades in Imathia, Pella, Pieria, and Kavala: which roads are closing and when

Producers are remaining at their agricultural and livestock blockades and are proceeding with mild-form actions, stating that they do not intend to inconvenience citizens, especially ahead of the holiday season

Newsroom December 19 12:39

Producers in Imathia, Pella, Pieria, and Kavala are carrying out symbolic road closures and other actions to demonstrate that they remain at their agricultural–livestock blockades, to publicize their demands, and to stress that their goal is not to inconvenience society, particularly during the festive period. These actions follow decisions taken yesterday by the Panhellenic Blockades Committee during its meeting in Lefkona, Serres.

Within this framework, producers today are proceeding with a one-hour symbolic closure of the service roads at the Kouloura junction, lasting until 1:30 p.m., during which they are distributing jars of peach compote. The restriction of traffic on the service roads significantly hampers access to Veria, especially due to the agricultural blockade at the Niseli junction in Imathia, where the Egnatia Odos toward the city remains closed indefinitely. At the Niseli junction, producers are keeping one passage open exclusively for emergency vehicles, while livestock farmers and farmers from Krya Vrysi in the prefecture of Pella are present with tractors and agricultural vehicles.

Agricultural–livestock blockades also remain in place at the Gypsochori junction in Pella, on the Thessaloniki–Edessa national road, while farmers from Vegoritida and Kaimaktsalan have lined up their tractors at the location known as “Alysida,” at the Drosia junction in Pella.

Producers in Skydra continue their mobilizations, while farmers from the Municipality of Almopia have set up a blockade at the entrance to Aridaia, and their counterparts from Edessa remain stationed on the ring road at the location known as “Fanaria.” According to decisions taken at their general assemblies, they will today proceed with a joint march to the Skydra customs office and carry out a symbolic blockade for two hours starting at 5:00 p.m.

In Pieria, farmers from Aiginio have set up a blockade at the entrance to the town, proceeding with closures along the old Thessaloniki–Katerini national road. At the Variko junction, producers from the Municipality of Dion–Olympus are present with tractors and agricultural vehicles, carrying out daily symbolic mobilizations.

In the prefecture of Kavala, three blockades have been set up: in Chrysoupoli, at the Ancient Theatre of Philippi, and at the Moustheni junction on the Egnatia Odos. Participants in these blockades will hold a joint protest on Monday, 22/12, at the ELGA branch in Kavala. Today, participants at the Moustheni junction blockade are proceeding with a symbolic closure of the site from 4:00 p.m. for at least one hour. Meanwhile, producers at the blockade near the Ancient Theatre of Philippi are leaving open the possibility of relocating to another key junction.

An indefinite closure remains in effect at the Kerdyllia junction, on the Egnatia Odos (Kerdyllia–Serres, in both directions), by farmers and livestock breeders from the prefecture of Serres. Traffic and passage at the site are now conducted only via service roads for all vehicles and trucks.

Farmers who have set up their blockade at the Kokkinogeia–Prosotsani junction continue to carry out symbolic closures. This junction is a central connection point for settlements in the area and leads toward the Greek–Bulgarian border, via the Exaplatanos crossing, and toward the city of Drama.
