Newsroom January 2 05:37

What was meant to be a New Year’s celebration nearly turned into a tragedy for a family from Amaxades, Xanthi, as a 9-year-old child was seriously injured when a flare exploded in his hands, according to xanthipost.gr.

According to the report, the incident took place on the night of the change of the year, under conditions that are still under investigation. The child was urgently transferred to the General Hospital of Xanthi, where medical and nursing staff were placed on high alert.

Amputation and a battle in the operating room

According to reliable information, the condition of the injury to the 9-year-old’s hand was particularly severe. Doctors fought for hours in the operating room to repair the damage; however, unfortunately, they proceeded with the amputation of one of the minor’s fingers due to the force of the explosion.

The 9-year-old’s health ordeal was not limited to orthopedic injuries alone. It was deemed necessary for him to be examined by an ophthalmologist, as debris and fragments from the flare explosion were propelled into the child’s eyes. Doctors are closely monitoring the condition of his vision, which is described as controlled but serious.
