The weather is changing: From frost to southerly winds, rain and a noticeable rise in temperature

Detailed forecast by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) through Epiphany

A change in the weather pattern is expected, with morning frost easing and southerly winds prevailing, bringing rain and thunderstorms mainly to the west and a gradual rise in temperature across Greece.

In the west, there will be few clouds at first, which will quickly increase. Local rain will occur from midday in the northern Ionian Sea and Epirus, gradually spreading to the rest of the Ionian Islands, western Central Greece, and western Peloponnese. Sporadic thunderstorms will also develop over the Ionian Sea. In the rest of the country, the weather will initially be generally clear, gradually turning to temporary cloudiness with a few local rains mainly in Macedonia, Thrace, the eastern Aegean islands, the Cyclades, central Central Greece, and eastern Peloponnese.

Snowfall will occur locally in the mountainous inland areas, mainly in Epirus and central Central Greece.

Winds will blow from the south to southwest at 3–5 Beaufort, and temporarily in the southeastern Aegean from the northwest at 5–6 Beaufort. They will gradually strengthen to 6–7 Beaufort, with further strengthening during the night.

Temperatures will rise, mainly in terms of maximum values, although frost will again occur early in the morning in inland areas. Temperatures will reach 6–10°C in the north, 11–14°C in the rest of the country, and locally 15–16°C in the southern mainland and island regions.

MACEDONIA – THRACE

Weather: Initially generally clear, gradually temporary cloudiness with a few local rains and light local snowfall in mountainous areas.
Winds: South to southwest 3–4 Beaufort, gradually in the east up to 5–6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From -5 to 10°C. In western Macedonia from -7 to 6°C.

IONIAN ISLANDS – EPIRUS – WESTERN CENTRAL GREECE – WESTERN PELOPONNESE

Weather: Few clouds that will quickly increase, with local rain from midday in the northern Ionian Sea and Epirus, gradually spreading to other areas. Sporadic thunderstorms in the Ionian Sea. Snowfall in the mountainous inland areas, mainly in Epirus.
Winds: South to southwest 3–5 Beaufort, gradually in the Ionian Sea up to 6–7 Beaufort.
Temperature: From -1 to 15°C. In the interior of Epirus from -5 to 7°C.

THESSALY – EASTERN CENTRAL GREECE – EUBOEA – EASTERN PELOPONNESE

Weather: Initially generally clear, gradually temporary cloudiness with a few local rains from the afternoon, mainly in central Central Greece and eastern Peloponnese. Snowfall from the afternoon in the mountainous areas of central Central Greece, western Thessaly, and northern Peloponnese.
Winds: South to southwest 3–4 Beaufort, gradually up to 5–6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From -2 to 15°C. In the north, 2–3°C lower.

CYCLADES – CRETE

Weather: Initially generally clear, gradually temporary cloudiness with a few local rains, mainly in the Cyclades from the afternoon.
Winds: Variable 3–4 Beaufort and in the east northwesterly up to 5–6 Beaufort, quickly turning southwest 3–5 Beaufort and gradually up to 6–7 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 4 to 16°C.

EASTERN AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE

Weather: Initially generally clear, gradually temporary cloudiness with a few local rains, mainly on the eastern Aegean islands from the afternoon.
Winds: In the south, northwesterly 5–6 Beaufort, quickly weakening and gradually turning south to southwest 3–5 Beaufort. In the north, south to southwest 3–5 Beaufort, gradually up to 6–7 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 4 to 15°C. In the north, 4–5°C lower.

ATTICA

Weather: Generally clear with temporary cloudiness, increasing in the evening.
Winds: Southwest 3–4 Beaufort, gradually up to 5–6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 2 to 14°C. In the north, minimum temperatures 2–3°C lower.

THESSALONIKI

Weather: Few clouds, temporarily increasing.
Winds: Variable 3–4 Beaufort.
Temperature: From -1 to 9°C.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, SATURDAY 03-01-2026

In Epirus, western Central Greece, and Peloponnese: rain and sporadic thunderstorms. In the rest of the country, increased cloudiness at times with local rain mainly in Thrace and the eastern Aegean islands, where isolated thunderstorms are possible.

Winds will blow from the south to southwest at 5–6 Beaufort, 7 Beaufort over the seas, and locally up to 8 Beaufort in the Aegean.

Temperatures will rise, reaching 13–15°C (locally 16°C) in northern and central mainland areas, and 17–19°C in the rest of the country.

FORECAST FOR SUNDAY 04-01-2026

Thin clouds, locally and at times denser, with local rain mainly in the west, Thrace, and the eastern Aegean.

Winds from the south to southwest at 5–7 Beaufort, locally up to 8 Beaufort in the central and northern Aegean.

No significant change in temperature.

FORECAST FOR MONDAY 05-01-2026

Increased cloudiness in most areas, with local rain mainly in the west, north, and the eastern Aegean islands. Chance of sporadic thunderstorms in the northwest.

Winds from southern directions at 4–6 Beaufort, locally 7 Beaufort over the seas and temporarily up to 8 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea.

Temperatures will rise slightly in the west and south.

FORECAST FOR TUESDAY 06-01-2026 (EPIPHANY)

In the west, increased cloudiness with rain and sporadic thunderstorms. In the rest of the country, few clouds locally increasing, with local rain mainly in the north and the eastern Aegean.
