The resignation of the Director of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), Giorgos Saounatsos, is expected to be requested later today by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, following the prolonged blackout in the air traffic safety systems.
According to information, after the damning report on the blackout in the FIR, the minister had indicated that responsibilities would be sought, particularly those attributed to the HCAA. In this context, Mr. Saounatsos’s resignation is expected to be requested within the day, with his duties to be assumed by one of the HCAA’s deputy governors.
Giorgos Saounatsos took office in March 2024 with a five-year term and was responsible for flight safety matters, system modernization, and airport development.
