The first Tomb Raider video game was released in 1996, with Lara Croft quickly becoming a global female action icon. The most recent game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, launched in 2018, while several classic titles have since been remastered. Two new games, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, are expected to be released in 2026 and 2027 respectively.
Following the announcement of her casting, Turner said:
“I’m thrilled to be playing Lara Croft. She’s an iconic character who means so much to so many people, and I’m giving it everything I’ve got. Angelina and Alicia set the bar incredibly high with their powerful performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, I know we’re all—and Lara especially—in very good hands. I can’t wait for you to see what we’re creating.”
