Police dog Laika uncovered more than 7 kilos of drugs in Xanthi

Police officers in Xanthi, assisted by the drug-detection police dog Laika, arrested a man at midday on Monday, January 19, for drugs and weapons offenses.

The operation was carried out following the αξιοποίηση πληροφοριών (evaluation of intelligence), with searches conducted at the suspect’s home and a storage facility. There, officers located and confiscated large quantities of cannabis—both raw and processed (hashish/chocolate)—as well as cocaine and another narcotic substance.

At the same time, electronic precision scales, an electronic grinder, glass vials containing the narcotic substance known as “lean,” empty packaging materials, and mobile phones were found—items currently being examined as part of the preliminary investigation.

Additionally, an air gun with its case, a gas canister, and pellets were seized. The arrested individual will be brought before the Public Prosecutor of Xanthi, while the investigation is being conducted by the competent police department.

A Greek national was arrested yesterday (19-1-2026) at midday in Xanthi by officers of the Xanthi Department for Crime Prevention and Investigation. A case file was formed against him for violations of legislation concerning addictive substances and weapons.

Specifically, following appropriate αξιοποίηση πληροφοριών (use of intelligence), police arrested the suspect because during searches carried out at his residence and a storage facility, with the assistance of the drug-detection police dog “LAIKA” from the Alexandroupolis Sub-Directorate for Crime Prevention and Investigation, they found and seized:

  • 22 plastic packages containing raw cannabis, total weight 5 kilograms and 905.2 grams
  • 22 plastic packages containing processed cannabis (hashish/chocolate), total weight 1 kilogram and 218.8 grams
  • 2 packages of cocaine, total weight 6.8 grams
  • 1 package containing a narcotic substance, total weight 89.2 grams

As well as:

  • 5 electronic precision scales
  • 1 electronic grinder
  • 20 glass vials containing the narcotic substance “lean,” total volume 1,000 ml
  • 1 air gun with its case, a gas canister, and pellets
  • 272 empty packages
  • 4 mobile phones

The arrested individual will be brought before the Public Prosecutor of Xanthi, while the preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Xanthi Department for Crime Prevention and Investigation.
