One minute of silence in Parliament for the deceased workers in Trikala and PAOK supporters

“The country has been shaken by two successive tragedies,” said Deputy Speaker of Parliament Giorgos Georgantas at the opening of the session

Newsroom January 29 12:25

The Hellenic Parliament observed a one-minute silence for the five female workers who lost their lives in the explosion at a factory in Trikala, as well as for the PAOK supporters who were killed in a road accident in Romania.
“The session begins under a very heavy atmosphere. In just two days, our country, our society, has been shaken by two successive tragedies that have devastated us,” said Deputy Speaker of Parliament Giorgos Georgantas at the opening of today’s sitting.

“In Trikala, the explosion at the factory claimed the lives of five women workers. Five people who went to work and never returned to their homes. Their loss reminds us in the harshest way how self-evident and how imperative workplace safety must be, and how heavy the state’s duty is toward every worker and every family.

Just a few hours later, in Romania, a tragic road accident cost the lives of PAOK supporters—people who were traveling to support their team in tonight’s match in Lyon. A journey of joy was turned into an unspeakable loss.

On behalf of the House, I express our most sincere condolences to the families of the victims and our solidarity with the injured and their loved ones. At moments like these, we all owe it to bow our heads in respect,” Mr. Georgantas stressed, calling on MPs to observe a one-minute silence in their memory.
