The body of the Russian businessman found on a beach in Cyprus has been identified through DNA

Vladislav Baumgertner had been reported missing since 7 January - His body was found 8 days later

Russian national, Limassol permanent resident, and businessman Vladislav Baumgertner has been officially identified as the man whose body was recovered by Cypriot police at Avdimou beach on January 15, following DNA analysis.

According to the authorities, the 56-year-old former CEO of fertilizer company Uralkali was reported missing on January 7. The circumstances surrounding his death, as well as the exact cause, remain under investigation by the British Bases Police Criminal Investigation Department.

“Investigations and formal procedures have been completed. The identity has been determined,” a person close to the businessman told the RIA Novosti news agency, adding that “DNA testing is a mandatory part of the procedure.”

Cypriot police launched an extensive search for Vladislav Baumgertner on January 11. On January 14, a local resident discovered the body of a man in the search area near the coastal village of Avdimou, close to where the businessman’s mobile phone signal was last detected. The area falls under the jurisdiction of the British Sovereign Base Area of Akrotiri, where the autopsy was conducted.
