Vietnam is building the largest stadium in the world, with a capacity of 135,000 spectators

The Trong Dong Stadium began construction last December in Hanoi and is expected to be completed in 2028

Newsroom February 9 09:19

Vietnam is building the largest stadium in the world, with a capacity of 135,000 spectators.

Although Vietnam does not have a particularly strong tradition in sports, it has embarked on a monumental project to construct a stadium designed to be the largest in the world.

With a colossal budget of 925 trillion dong (approximately €30 billion) and a target inauguration in the autumn of 2028, Trong Dong will have a capacity of 135,000 spectators, surpassing the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium (North Korea, 114,000 seats), which is currently the largest in the world, as well as the under-construction Hassan II Stadium (Morocco, 115,000 seats), which will host the final of the 2030 World Cup.

The architecture of the stadium is inspired by the Dong Son bronze drum, a sacred artifact symbolizing ancient Vietnamese civilization and representing strength, longevity, and community spirit.

Vietnam is building the largest stadium in the world, with a capacity of 135,000 spectators.

Built within a 9,000-hectare complex (90 million square meters), the stadium will feature a retractable roof and will function as a multi-purpose arena for sports, concerts, and festivals.
