What weather will we have on Tsiknopempti? A new deterioration is coming – Meteorologists warn of heavy rainfall in 5 regions

Most of the rainfall will occur in western and southern Greece, the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese, and southern Crete, according to meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafilias – What will happen in Attica

Newsroom February 10 10:30

Bad weather is returning to the country, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and gale-force winds.

Intense weather phenomena are expected over the next few days in several regions, with the mercury—according to expert forecasts—showing a noticeable drop, especially in mainland areas.

“A new spell of rainfall began today in our country and will continue throughout the week. Most of the rain will fall in western and southern Greece, the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese, and southern Crete,” Giorgos Tsatrafilias notes characteristically in a new post about the weather.

“These areas, as we have said, due to high soil moisture and saturation, are at risk of ground subsidence, landslides, stream overflows, and localized flooding phenomena.

The highest rainfall totals, according to the latest data, appear to affect: Epirus, the northern Ionian, western Peloponnese, the Dodecanese, and southern Crete (Chania, Rethymno).”

What will happen in Attica – Tsiknopempti with rain

In Attica, light rain is expected, with more intense phenomena on the night of Tsiknopempti and at midday on Saturday. After February 20, colder conditions seem likely to prevail, with more snowfall and strengthened northerly winds.

Kallianos’ forecast

Rain, local thunderstorms, and periods of instability will characterize the weather throughout the week, also affecting Attica, according to a post by Giannis Kallianos.

According to the meteorologist, the week that has begun will be marked by repeated episodes of instability, mainly involving rain and local thunderstorms. Local snowfall will occur until Wednesday morning in the very mountainous areas of central and northern mainland Greece, while until Tuesday morning snowfall will also affect lower-altitude areas in Thrace.

At the same time, on Thursday and Friday, winds over the seas will strengthen significantly, reaching 6 to 7 Beaufort and at times even 8.

The cause of instability and atmospheric circulation

As Giannis Kallianos explains, the phenomena are linked to the continuous passage of low-pressure systems from west to east across southeastern Europe.

This particular atmospheric circulation favors episodes of rain, thunderstorms, and periodically strengthened winds, without, however, being anything unusual for the season.

When rain is expected in Attica

As for Attica, the meteorologist provides indicative time periods during which rain is expected: Tuesday at midday, Wednesday at midday and in the evening, as well as Thursday afternoon.

Giannis Kallianos emphasizes that, based on current data, an umbrella will be necessary again this week, as the phenomena will appear intermittently and with local intensifications.

Today’s weather

Local rain is expected over most of the country. Local thunderstorms are expected in parts of the Aegean. Local snowfall is expected mainly in mountainous mainland areas, while during the morning hours local snowfall is expected even in low-altitude areas of Thrace (locally possibly even in lowland parts of northern Evros).

Temperatures will range in Western Macedonia from -1 to 6–7°C, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from -4 to 9°C, in Thessaly from 0 to 9°C, in Epirus from -1 to 14°C, in the remaining mainland areas from 0 to 14–15°C, in the Ionian Islands from 7 to 14°C, and in the Aegean islands and Crete from 7 to 16°C.

In the central and northern Aegean, generally northerly winds will blow at 6–7 Beaufort, gradually weakening to up to 4 Beaufort, while in the southern Aegean generally westerly winds will blow at up to 4–5 Beaufort. In the Ionian, winds will blow from various directions at up to 3–4 Beaufort.

In the prefecture of Attica, cloudiness with local rain is expected, with emphasis on the northern parts of the prefecture. Improvement is expected after midday. Winds will generally be northerly at up to 4–5 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 9 to 13–14°C, but in the northern parts of the prefecture they will be up to 3 degrees lower.

In Thessaloniki, cloudiness with local rain is expected during the morning hours, while improvement is expected from the afternoon onward. Winds will blow generally from easterly directions at up to 2–3 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 5 to 8–9°C.

Weather on Wednesday 11-02-2026

Increased cloudiness with intermittent rain initially in the west and south and from midday onward in the rest of the country. Isolated thunderstorms will occur in the west, intensifying from the afternoon and possibly becoming locally strong. Temporary light snowfall will occur in the central and northern mountainous areas.

Winds will blow in the west from southerly directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort and from the evening westerly at 4 to 6 Beaufort. In the east, winds will blow from southerly directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort and from the afternoon in the Aegean locally 6 Beaufort, with further strengthening at night in the southwestern areas.

Temperatures will show a slight rise in central and southern regions. They will reach 12 to 14°C in the north, 15 to 17°C in the remaining areas, and locally 18 to 19°C in the southern Aegean.
