Tspiras and Kammenos discuss new cabinet

Tsipras expected to be sworn in as PM Monday evening

Newsroom September 21 04:32

A day after his party recorded a second victory in the Greek elections in the space of only seven months, left SYRIZA party leader Alexis Tsipras was in continuous meetings with his party staff in a bid to hammer out the new cabinet, Monday. Panos Kamennos leader of the right populist party ANEL (Independent Greeks) and Tsipras’s former partner in the previous coalition government, was among those that met with SYRIZA’s head. The subject of discussion between the two men was the make-up of the new government. Welcoming Kamennos, Tsipras stated: “History repeats itself. The most important thing is that now we have the ability to plan long-term”. He added that the desire of the Greek people was to move forward and severe ties with the past, adding that those who were hoping for a ‘left break’ in Greek politics were proven emphatically wrong. On his part, Panos Kamennos said that the most important thing was to achieve stability in order to bring back hope to the Greek people. “We might have upset some people, but we can you do…”, he said. The two parties have clearly reached an agreement to enter into a coalition government anew, which means Tsipras will inform the President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos that he is able to form a government and request to be sworn in as Prime Minister immediately. Sources say that Tsipras is not expected to make noteworthy changes to the previous cabinet members. Panos Kamennos is favourite to take the Defense Ministry once again.
