Minor clashes broke out at the Athens Polytechnic upon arrival of  Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who arrived to lay a wreath for the 42nd anniversary of the student uprising. Leftist factions that gathered at the area clashed with members of the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government.

Tension flaired as anti-government factions chanted slogans against the government while others threw cups of coffee and water bottles at government officials accompanying the PM, including State Minister Alekos Flambouraris and State Minister Nikos Pappas, as well as other lawmakers such as George Varemenos and George Tsironis.

The lawmakers created a chain to allow Tsipras to pass through. He finally managed to lay a wreath at 9.20 a.m.

Clashes continued after he left.
