Greek President meets with MEP Gianni Pittella in Athens

Greek President outlines the 5 core principles Europe should be based on

Newsroom March 17 04:54

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos outlined his 5 basic principles for the future of Europe during his meeting with MEP and head of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, Gianni Pittella in Athens, Friday. On his part, Mr. Pittella expressed his support to Greece, underlining that the second review of the Greek bailout program had to conclude as soon as possible and that there should be a debt relief. Mr. Pavlopoulos said he was optimistic that the EU could achieve more integration and move towards federalisation, provided that all parties followed the basic values of Peace, Solidarity, Democracy, Social Justice and sustainable Growth. Commenting on the election results in the Netherlands and Austria, the Greek President noted they proved the anti-European forces had been defeated, while expressing his conviction that the French people would respond in a similar way in the upcoming elections. Mr. Pittella said he was against a fragmented Europe and called on the Greek President to support the Rome Declaration to take place on March 23.
