Britney Spears has won: After 13 years her father filed a petition to end her conservatorship

Britney Spears's lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, described Jamie's testimony as "a huge legal victory" for the pop star

Jamie Spears is officially seeking to end the conservatorship which allowed him to control the property and most aspects of the life of his famous daughter Britney Spears for 13 years.

In court documents, the 69-year-old attributed the sudden change in his attitude to “recent custody-related events”, referring mainly to the court hearings that took place during the summer, in which Britney, 39, asked to take over the management of her property.

The side of Jamie Spears claimed that “recent events related to this conservatorship have called into question whether circumstances have changed to such an extent that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist”.

“Ms Spears has told this Court that she wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship,” the petition continues, adding that Spears has expressed her wish to oversee her own medical and financial care”.

The termination of custody now remains to be approved by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny, who has taken over the case.

In a statement to Page Six, Britney Spears’s lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, described Jamie’s testimony as “a huge legal victory” for the pop star.

According Rosengart, her father’s plan was to hold his daughter hostage, trying to reach a multimillion-dollar compromise. “There is no settlement”, Rosengart said Tuesday, referring to Britney’s father’s alleged attempt to extort $2 million to secure her release.

“It appears that Mr. Spears believes he can try to avoid accountability and justice, including sitting for a sworn deposition and answering other discovery under oath, but as we assess his filing — which was inappropriately sent to the media before it was served on counsel — our investigation will continue,” Rosengart said, pledging that the legal investigation for mismanagement of her assets and other issues will continue.
