Turkish media ramp-up war rhetoric against Greece – “When should Turkey invade the Greek islands?”(video)

Pro-government media are towing Erdogan's line

Newsroom February 17 04:34

Turkish media are ramping up war rhetoric against Greece, like many pundits, and talking heads on TV who are are adopting provocative statements in their analyses, towing the line of the Turkish government and its propaganda.
Pro-government Turkish media are crafting a polemic climate against Greece, highlighting the issue of “demilitarization” of the Aegean islands. Journalists and analysts are directly even calling for a military invasion of the islands.

Speaking to CNN Turk, strategic analyst Abdullah Cifti describes when the best timing would be for Turkey to invade the Greek islands.

“There are problems with Poland and Hungary within the EU while NATO may be challenged. Then I believe that Turkey will be able to carry out the operation it wants on the islands. And not now. Now Turkey is fighting in the diplomatic arena, but I believe that in the future it will have this opportunity,” Cifti said provocatively, with the journalist seeming to agree with his views (in the video: 7: 58-8: 24).

In a similar vein, on a show of the ULKE network, a journalist discusses with the analyst Yusuf Alabarda the alleged “violations” of Greece in the Aegean.

In front of a map of the Aegean Sea, where they have grouped and changed the names of the islands to “In front of the straits”, “Saruhan islands” and “Mendes islands”, Alabarda accused Greece of militarising islands and islets. “After the ‘peace’ military operation in Cyprus in 1974, Greece began to equip these islands,” he said, referring to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and its illegal occupation, with journalist Turgay Guler looking at the map and saying: “But can these islands be left to the Greeks?”
