Newsroom August 1 11:00

Since 1810, shortly after the revolution of May 25 in July, a ship arrived with 20 Greek sailors on its crew.

Among those Greeks were the 3 Spiro brothers who would fight in the liberating campaigns of the Argentines against the Spanish to gain their freedom. The one that stood out the most was the second lieutenant of infantry of the Army at the service of the navy Pedro Samuel Spiro who bravely died on March 28, 1814 in the naval combat of Arroyo de la China. In his honor today there is a missile corvette with its name the A.R.A P43 SPIRO.

In 1810 Nicolas Jorge Kolmaniatis (he was also known as Jorge) arrived from Hydra, who served his adoptive country for 50 years, participating in the struggles against the Spanish, Brazilians, Anglo-French and in internal struggles of the country. He reached the important degree of Colonel of the Navy and died at 80 years old. He has two schools with his name and streets as well and two navy ships with his name.

In 1850, Constantino Jorge, born on the island of Tinos, appears in Argentina. He reached the rank of Frigate Captain, was wounded in combat and decorated. He fought in the war against Paraguay and was a navigator in the Patagonia area.
