Tensions between Greece and Turkey continue to rise, with media in the neighbouring country ratcheting up anti-Greek sentiment. In the most recent event, thousands of young people holding torches in Turkey sang in a frenzy the anthem for Kemal Atatürk, which is the Turkish “Smyrni (Izmir) anthem”.

“The enthusiasm of the İzmir anthem is spreading to the whole country,” writes the Turkish website aykiri in a post on Twitter, citing a video from the gathering.

“After Caesarea and Iconium where the Presidential Alliance had obtained record votes, impressive images from Nigdis as well. In this way, thousands of young people sang the “Smirni Anthem: Long live Mustafa Kemal Pasha, your name will be written on jewel stones”, the publication states.

İzmir Marşı coşkusu ülke geneline yayılıyor. Cumhur İttifakı’nın rekor oy aldığı Kayseri ve Konya’dan sonra Niğde’den çarpıcı görüntüler. On binlerce genç İzmir Marşı’nı böyle söyledi: “Yaşa Mustafa Kemal Paşa yaşa, adın yazılacak mücevher taşa.”
