King Charles III leads procession of queen’s coffin in Edinburgh (watch live)

It is draped with the Royal Standard in Scotland and dressed with a wreath of flowers

Newsroom September 12 04:58

Queen Elizabeth’s coffin is continuing its journey along Edinburgh’s Royal Mile to St Giles’ Cathedral.

It is draped with the Royal Standard in Scotland and dressed with a wreath of flowers, which includes dried white heather from her beloved Balmoral.

King Charles called the British parliament “the living and breathing organ of our democracy” during his speech, and pledged to follow the example of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth.

The pilgrimage for Queen Elizabeth started in Scotland. The coffin arrived in the forecourt of the Palace and from there it was taken to the Throne Room. This is the first stop of the royal funeral procession which started on Sunday and will end in London, Windsor Castle, St George’s Chapel, and the Royal Crypt, where the burial will also take place.

Meanwhile, crowds have gathered in the Scottish countryside to say a final farewell to the UK’s longest-serving monarch.
