Turkey continues egregious anti-Greek narrative claiming UAV photos show weapons unloaded on Aegean islands of Samos and Lesvos

The report and photos were published in Anadolu News Agency

Newsroom September 25 03:06

Turkey continued to push egregious accusations against Greece via state-run news agency Anadolu, claiming UAV photos revealed weapons were being unloaded on the supposed demilitarised islands of the eastern Aegean citing Turkish military sources.

As reported on the news agency’s telegram published on Sunday morning (25/09), an unmanned spy aircraft recorded the moment of disembarking from ships of military equipment in Lesvos and Samos.

With the false claim that there are international treaties that require that the islands of the eastern Aegean must be demilitarised, the telegram of the state news agency of Turkey notes that “these activities of Greece are in violation of international law”.

According to Anadolu’s “revelation”, 23 armoured vehicles were transported to Lesvos and 18 armoured vehicles to Samos from the two disputed ships. “We must note that these vehicles were among those sent to the port of Alexandroupoli from the USA,” the telegram added.

According to the security sources cited by the Turkish news agency, the two incidents took place on September 18 and 21 and “are the clearest indication that Greece continues to arm the islands close to Turkey and violates the status of non-militarised islands”.

“These actions are not acceptable,” the same sources told Anadolu, characterising them as “aggressive” by Greece, a NATO ally,” in violation of international law and the spirit of the North Atlantic Alliance” and “contrary to the appeals ( s.s. from Turkey) for dialogue and good neighborly relations.

Pushing Turkey’s narrative of the supposed violation of the status of the demilitarised islands, the same sources emphasised that with these cargoes “armoured vehicles given by the US replaced other vehicles located on the two islands.

“The fact that Greece does not accept any invitation for negotiations and makes these provocative moves increases the tension with aggressive and illegal moves@, the same sources concluded.
