According to the information that has emerged, the accident appears to be due to the wrong handling of the Larissa station master who, in the “Larissa – Evangelismos” section, directed the passenger train to the downward traffic line, resulting in it being on the same line as the freight train.

During his deposition at the stage of the preliminary investigation, the station master of Larissa, who has been arrested, allegedly admitted his fatal mistake and attributed it to “bad timing”, while a case file has been filed against him for serious crimes. He was subsequently charged with a felony.
