Greek expats to vote on May 20

There will be a televised debate between all political leaders

Newsroom April 24 03:42

“There will be a televised debate between all the party leaders,” said the new government spokesperson Akis Skertsos, in his first briefing to political editors since assuming his role.

Skertsos pointed out that the government wants “the parties to sit at the same table”, in order to see the inconsistencies and the positions of each side. However, he clarified that ahead of the May 21 elections, there will be a televised debate with all the political leaders from “all the parties represented in the Parliament”.

At the same time, commenting on SYRIZA’s request to publish the imponderable data of the opinion polls, he said that it is ” like taking a bath with your clothes on”.

“Our goal is a comparison and not conflict, to conduct a civilized pre-election campaign dialogue without toxicity but with a focus on the results of our policies that have made the lives of citizens better in recent years, but also on those policy fields where there is still a lag and it is necessary to make leaps,” he emphasised in his introduction.

“Insistence on documentation is not a technocratic obsession, on the contrary, it is an example of upgrading the political dialogue. Because what is not measured cannot be evaluated on its true basis. This is at the core of what we call politics with tangible results but also political dialogue of substance,” he added.

As it was announced by the Ministry of the Interior, Greeks abroad who have registered to vote in their place of residence will go to the polls one day earlier, on May 20.
