More than 120 tractors at Syntagma square- Farmers leave at 11

With the central slogan "without us, what will you eat?", farmers held an all-night vigil at Syntagma - At the blockades they will decide whether to continue the mobilizations

Newsroom February 21 07:47

Shortly after 11 this morning, farmers who spent the night in Syntagma Square after yesterday’s rally, restarted their tractors.

They are on their way back, making appointments at the blockades, where they will decide how to continue their mobilizations.

Some put on the table the idea of keeping the tractors outside the Parliament until their demands are met, but it was decided not to change the plan and to leave in sections and in a coordinated manner, in the same way as they arrived in Athens.

At the blockades, the Greek farmers will decide whether to continue the roadblocks or whether there will be other forms of mobilisation.

Their message was sent by the presence of more than 8,000 farmers, beekeepers and livestock farmers at yesterday’s peaceful rally at Syntagma.

Besides, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who had earlier made it clear that the government has exhausted its fiscal space to give something extra, also described yesterday’s rally as a means of putting pressure on Brussels.

The rally not only had … tractors, but also had a pulse, banners and slogans about their professional survival and the importance of the primary sector for society as a whole, such as ‘without us, what will you eat?’, ‘lower production costs mean lower prices on the shelves’ and ‘no farmers, no food, no future’.
