Ermou: The assailant holding a knife in his hand shortly after attacking a woman

The assailant appears to be standing impassively in the middle of the pavement holding the knife - Eyewitnesses describe to protothema.gr how he stabbed the girl

Newsroom March 1 03:45

The scenes in Ermou, in the centre of Athens, were shocking when a man stabbed and seriously injured a woman.

The incident took place at the junction of Ermou and Fokionos streets, when the man, according to eyewitnesses, approached the woman and stabbed her in the back.

Impression causes the video taken by the reader of protothema.gr Laura Skiouti, which shows the perpetrator immediately after the stabbing, standing impassively in the middle of the sidewalk holding the knife in his hands.

Shortly afterwards, as the second video shows, the perpetrator was arrested by police officers, who stand around him while a passerby boos him.

“It was a foreigner, he stuck the knife in her and I thought he wanted to rob her,” describes an eyewitness who called 911. The girl screamed “help, help”.

The perpetrator threw the bag.

“He was apathetic, he didn’t want to run away and leave. He just stood there and watched her,” said the woman, who estimated he wanted to attack her again.

“He was waiting for the police to come and arrest him.”

Another eyewitness described what he saw unfolding in front of him.
