Greek hot-springs to involve the private sector

In order to create modern health centers

Newsroom October 13 05:12

The operation of Greek hot-water springs will be less restricted in the future, according to the Tourism Ministry. The ultimate goal is to promote private sector investment in this area.

Speaking via video call during the “Prospects of Tourism-Thermalism in Different Geographical Areas in the framework of the European Health Act” conference, Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni underlined that this legislation will not affect the current ownership rights of hot-water springs by respective municipalities.

According to Mrs. Kefalogianni, if the private sector cooperates in running the hot-water springs, then those parts of the country could very well become modern health tourism centers.

It is noteworthy to mention that Greece is number one internationally in regards to the amount, quality and quantity of hot-water springs.

Mrs. Kefalogianni added that the Tourism Ministry considers thermal-spa tourism in Greece among its main priorities.

Mrs. Kefalogianni was originally scheduled to open the conference which took place in Edipsos (a famous place for hot-water springs) between the 9th and 11th of October. However, she could not attend due to a debate on a vote of confidence for the government that was taking place in Parliament.
