She was found guilty of endangering a minor and violence against employees

Newsroom May 14 06:10

A woman, 49, who was intoxicated while alone with her 7-year-old daughter, exposing her to danger, has been sent to jail.

The accused was found guilty by the Thessaloniki Single Municipal Court of Thessaloniki for endangering a minor and violence against employees, as in the sight of the police officers who were called to take charge she resisted, hitting them with kicks and punches.

The court imposed a 15-month prison sentence and ordered her to serve the first two months of the sentence, the remainder of which was suspended for three years.

According to the case file, the police were informed by the seven-year-old girl’s grandfather – the defendant’s father-in-law – after receiving a call from the minor who asked him to pick her up from her house to take her to the playground.

When the 74-year-old took the girl from the house, she told him that her mother was drunk and was afraid to be alone with her at home.

‘As soon as my granddaughter saw her mother she said ‘oh grandpa, mummy is going to fall down the stairs because she is very drunk’ the 74-year-old told the judges, explaining that it was not the first time the minor’s mother had been drunk.

According to reports, during her questioning by police officers, the seven-year-old reported that her mother had driven the car drunk with her inside the vehicle, and once they had a car accident.

It is noted that the minor’s parents are divorced and the child spends some days with her grandparents.
