Indonesia: Siamese joined in the basin – They spent the first three years of their lives lying down

After hours of surgery, doctors managed to get the two boys to sit up

Newsroom May 15 07:30

A rare case of conjoined twins in Indonesia was brought to light by the American Journal of Case Reports as the two boys born in 2018 had three legs (two functional and the third not), four arms while sharing a penis with a “spider-like” appearance.

As noted in the medical journal, this is a case of Ischiopagus Tripus, children who are joined at the pelvis, with an incidence of 1 in 2 million.

As the article states, the  conjoined twins boys were unable to stand upright and were therefore forced to spend the first three years of their lives lying down.

A team of surgeons after a long surgery managed to amputate the children’s third – non-functional – leg and fix the femur and pelvic bone, enabling the boys to stand sitting up.

According to the doctors’ assessment, one of the conjoined boys has an underdeveloped kidney and the other has only one kidney.

The family has two other older children and no history of medical issues with their mother reporting no complications during her pregnancy.
