A 50-year-old man was given a 16-month sentence from the Thessaloniki Three-Member Misdemeanor Court for injuring a 14-year-old boy with a broken beer bottle and subsequently being severely beaten by the boy’s parents.

He was found guilty of dangerous bodily harm. The boy’s parents were also sentenced to five months for dangerous bodily harm, with recognized mitigating factors of lawful behavior and provocation by the 50-year-old.

The incident occurred on May 12, 2020, when the defendant, known for causing trouble in the neighborhood, attacked the boy with a beer bottle. The parents, witnessing the attack, intervened, with the father severely beating the attacker resulting in a 25% disability for the 50-year-old.

Neighbors testified that the man often caused problems, unlike the boy’s family, who were not troublemakers. The boy’s father admitted to attacking the man to protect his son, describing ongoing harassment. The mother confirmed the events but couldn’t recall if she hit the defendant, focusing on her son’s protection.

The defendant claimed he was struck twice before blacking out.
