“Let’s not be in a hurry,” says meteorologist and director of EMY Theodore Kolydas in a post after meteorologists placed for a wave of high heat in the coming days, with the arrival of June.

“Many people are running to catch us up on what the hottest day will be next week. But perhaps in their haste they forget to notice that already from Sunday there are large discrepancies between models, making forecasts quite uncertain,” he notes, among other things.

“LET’S NOT BE IN A HURRY ….
Many are rushing to catch up on what the warmest day will be next week. But perhaps in their haste they forget to notice that already on Sunday there are large discrepancies between models, making forecasts quite uncertain.
– The warmth is coming of course and this can be seen from the change in temperatures at the 850hPa level

Arnautoglou: Noticeable temperature rise after 30 May

ERT forecaster Sakis Arnaoutoglou warned in a post that the next few days will see very high temperatures in the country, with the mercury topping 36 degrees.

The meteorologist, as shown in a graph on Facebook, estimates that temperatures will start to rise on Friday, with the average temperature at 31 degrees, Saturday at 33, Sunday at 35, Monday and Tuesday – the hottest days – with an average temperature of 36 degrees, and Wednesday at 35 degrees. In fact, it says that in western and southern mainland Greece, as well as in Attica and Crete, away from the sea, the temperature will be 2-3 degrees higher.

Similarly, it predicts 3 to 6 degrees lower temperature in mountainous areas (e.g. 500 – 1,000 meters altitude), while in coastal areas and islands 3-5 degrees lower temperature respectively, but with a relatively higher temperature.

Kallianos: as soon as June arrives, it will “smell” like summer

For “warm invasion”, which will begin from Sunday, also spoke of the Southwest MP and meteorologist Yannis Kallianos. “On Saturday, on the mainland, temperatures of 32-34°C will be recorded, with local temperatures of 35°C in the heat-prone areas (Thessaly, Central & Eastern Sterea, Eastern Peloponnese).

On Sunday, however, there will be temperatures approaching or exceeding 35-36°C, with a tendency to rise further from Monday 3 June onwards,” he said in a post, explaining that it is not yet clear what the duration of the warm invasion will be.

Kallianos even published indicative maximum temperatures in Athens:

Thursday 30/5: 28°C
Friday 31/5: 28°C
Saturday 1/6: 30-31°C (subject to change)
Sunday 2/6: 33-34°C (subject to change)
Monday 3/6: 35-36°C (subject to change)

“As you can understand, from next Sunday 2 June we will enter summer temperatures and of course forecasting temperatures for after 4-5 days involves risk, so I have put a ‘with caution’ or ‘with great caution’ indicator,” he said.

The weather on Thursday

Generally clear weather with sparse clouds, which in the midday and afternoon hours, in the mainland and Crete, will occasionally thicken and there will be local rain or rain and in the mountains of the northern part of the country isolated thunderstorms. Visibility in the morning and evening hours in the west and south will be locally limited.

Winds will blow from the south at 3 to 5 Beaufort. The temperature will not change significantly.

It will reach 27 to 29 degrees Celsius on the mainland and 30 to 31 degrees Celsius locally on the eastern mainland and 24 to 26 degrees Celsius in most island areas.
