Symi: Searches for the BBC presenter have focused on caves suddenly filled with water

The Independent reports that firefighters are investigating a cave system that residents describe as "the abyss".

Newsroom June 8 09:35

Foreign media are following developments surrounding the disappearance of the BBC presenter in Symi with great concern.

As the Independent reports, there is now a battle against time to find 67-year-old Michael Mosley.

According to the British medium, firefighters are investigating a cave system that residents describe as “the abyss”.

As they explain, the cave network, which is located on a picturesque beach, consists of dozens of tunnels that can quickly fill with seawater.

Dr Mosley was last seen leaving St Nicholas beach at 1.30pm on Wednesday, when he was believed to be heading down the coastal path back to nearby Pedi.

“It’s like a deep tunnel system, but it’s full of water and can spread for miles. There’s a reason they call it that. There’s something very strange going on there,” a waiter told the Daily Telegraph.

Meanwhile, Dr Mosley’s wife said she would “not lose hope” in the search for her husband and thanked Greek authorities for their “tireless” efforts.

“The search continues and our family is incredibly grateful to the people of Symi, the Greek authorities and the British Consulate who are working tirelessly to help find Michael. We will not lose hope,” said Dr Clare Bailey Mosley.
