European elections 2024 – SYRIZA: The first comment on the exit poll – “A clear message to the government”

As they argue, "SYRIZA is confirmed as the leading force of the broader centre-left party"

Newsroom June 9 08:52

SYRIZA speaks of a “clear message to the government of Mr Mitsotakis” and a “clear disapproval of his policies”, commenting on the exit poll announced at 7 pm on Sunday 9/6, just after the polls closed for the European elections.

As they argue, “SYRIZA is confirmed as the leading force of the broader centre-left party, refuting the Cassandras that until recently predicted its collapse” and stressing that “it is clear that it is now up to it to take initiatives for the reconstruction of the progressive space”.

Finally, he referred to Nikos Androulakis, commenting that “it is clear that his tactics of single-minded targeting against SYRIZA and Stefanos Kasselakis were not rewarded”.

It is noted that Stefanos Kasselakis arrived shortly before 19.30 at the SYRIZA offices in Koumoundourou with his husband Tyler Macbeth and their dog, Farley, and took the dog on his afternoon walk around the party offices. He then went up to the offices without making a statement to reporters.

Earlier, after leaving his house, he told the cameras that he would comment on the official results, stressing that “tomorrow the insecurity, the poverty that so many people are experiencing will not change, let’s keep in mind the compass of politics, we should not do it for the chair.” Also, the SYRIZA leader was responding to reporters but stopped to respond to a passerby. “With victory!” he shouted at him and replied, “It will be done!”

It should be noted that SYRIZA had scored 23.75% in the 2019 European elections and 17.83% in last June’s national elections.

Earlier, Koumoundourou executives were optimistic about the results of the European elections, estimating that they will be at a high level, despite the problems the party had in the previous period, such as splitting phenomena and intense intra-party conflicts.

As they explained, the high abstention rate is something that worries SYRIZA’s executives, indicating that in the next period they will pay special attention to convince people to participate and vote.

According to what they said, those who did not vote today are not apolitical people but disillusioned voters, stressing that it was a big bet for SYRIZA and Stefanos Kasselakis to convince voters and citizens that it is necessary to participate in the elections.
