Two very important distinctions were reserved for the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with the announcement of the results of the QS World University Ranking (QS – Quacquarelli Symonds) and the THE University Impact Rankings (THE – Times Higher Education).

In particular, EKPA was awarded a special distinction (Certificate of Recognition) as the most improved University in Europe for the academic year 2024-2025. Also, according to THE University Impact Rankings, EKPA is ranked 6th worldwide in “Quality Education”.

ECPA.

The first distinction (Most Improved – Europe award category) is the result of the very large rise of the Institution in this ranking by about 300 places (651-700 in 2020-2021, 600 in 2022-2023, to 393rd in the world in 2024-2025).

A particular distinction in this year’s ranking is the 96th place worldwide (down from 276th last year) in the individual Employment Outcomes criterion. This indicator reflects the ability of institutions to ensure a high level of employability of their graduates and to prepare future leaders who will continue to have impact and high influence in their fields of action.

Also, a very important distinction was reserved for the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with the publication of the results of the global ranking THE University Impact Rankings, which gives the National University of Athens the best position ever received by a Greek institution in the rankings. For 2024, in SDG 4: “Quality Education” (SDG 4: Quality Education), the Hellenic University of Applied Sciences is ranked 6th worldwide among 1681 Universities with an overall score of 87.8/100.

THE University Impact Rankings assesses the position of universities worldwide based on their economic and social impact, as assessed against the United Nations’ seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Overall, EKPA is ranked 201-300, first in Greece and Cyprus in the THE University Impact Rankings, followed by the Economic University of Athens and the University of Crete at positions 401-600. The other institutions are after the 601st position.

As for the sub-ranking SDG 4: Quality Education, it focuses on the contribution of universities to education and lifelong learning, their research on quality education and their commitment through concrete practices and policies to inclusive education that contributes to social inclusion.

The QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) and THE (Times Higher Education) rankings are among the most respected and authoritative university rankings in the world and are based on a systematic study of the research results and other statistics of each institution, as well as a large number of interviews with academic staff and international employers.

This gives them both objectivity and the ability to reflect the progress of each institution. This is why they are a key input for the administrations of institutions when they do their planning, for researchers and academics when they look for jobs, for students when they choose an institution to study at, and for the business world when they look for research synergies.
