Christina Applegate: Her 13-year-old daughter diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome

"I hate this for you, my love," said the actress to her daughter

Newsroom June 26 01:38

Christina Applegate is enduring one of the toughest years of her life, compounded by her struggles with multiple sclerosis. Recently, another health issue emerged within her family: her 13-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble, was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).

POTS is a medical condition characterized by an increase in heart rate and blood pressure upon standing. Symptoms can include dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, fatigue, shortness of breath, blurred vision, nausea, and headaches.

Sadie Grace discussed her condition in an interview, explaining, “I have something called POTS. I’m not entirely sure what it is, but it affects my autonomic nervous system and my heart. When I stand up, I get very dizzy, my legs feel weak, and I feel like I’m going to pass out.”

In response, Applegate expressed her support and empathy, telling her daughter, “I hate this for you, honey. I really hate it. I’m sad. But I love you and I know you’ll be fine. I’m here for you, I believe you, and I thank you for raising awareness about this condition.”

Applegate herself recently opened up about her struggles with depression on the “Messy” podcast. “I’m depressed right now, which I don’t think I’ve felt in years,” she admitted. “It’s real depression, which scares me a little bit because I feel like I’m doomsaying. I’m trapped in this darkness and it feels like something I’ve been battling for 20 years.”

She also mentioned that her appearance at the Emmy Awards, where she received a standing ovation, was one of the hardest days of her life. She revealed that she slept the entire next day due to the emotional and physical toll.

“I’m really honest. I don’t like living. I don’t enjoy it; I hardly enjoy anything anymore,” Applegate concluded.

Christina Applegate publicly shared her MS diagnosis in August 2021.
