The Copernicus/Emergency Management Service has been activated for the immediate mapping of areas of the Region of Attica, affected by forest fires that occurred on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, on the instruction of the Secretary General of Civil Protection, the Directorate of Emergency Response Planning of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, as the National Contact Point, activated the Copernicus/Emergency Management Service (activation code (EMSR733) of the European Union.

The purpose of the activation is the production of cartographic products and data for areas of the Region of Attica, which were affected by the fires that occurred on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June, in order to assist the work of the agencies involved in the response to emergencies and the management of the consequences of the phenomenon.

The request has been accepted by the European Union and a series of cartographic data and products resulting from the analysis of satellite images are expected to be made available immediately.

Copernicus Emergency Management Service/Mapping data and maps will be made available immediately by the Directorate for Emergency Planning and Response of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection to all stakeholders free of charge for their project management.
