Tourism: Greece’s “Secret” Island According to Le Figaro – Water Sufficiency Standard for 2024

With dozens of exotic islands resembling confetti, Leipsi boasts unreal beauty that captivates visitors

Newsroom July 9 12:57

Le Figaro highlights Leipsi as one of Greece’s “secret” islands, standing out in 2024 for its remarkable allure. The French newspaper describes Leipsi as having “dozens of exotic islands that resemble confetti and possess an unreal beauty that visitors fall deeply in love with.” It emphasizes that the time has come for the unexplored picturesque “corners” of the Aegean to take center stage.

“Along with the natural beauty, our focus is on protecting the natural environment and creating quality living conditions for residents and tourists,” explains Fotis Maggos, the Mayor of Leipsi. “Through a series of initiatives, we have made Leipsi a model of water sufficiency despite the water shortage conditions that prevail nationwide.”

A water supply remote control system has been implemented to detect leaks, monitor energy performance, and record consumption. Soon, the project to expand the water supply network by 8 km will commence, ensuring every household has access to water and achieving 100% drinking water autonomy for the island.

What 2026 brings for Greek tourism

The projects and actions implemented so far in the Municipality of Leipsi have led to a significant reduction in water consumption and waste, as well as an increase in water production. “The quality of the destination at every level is also the reason for the lengthening of the tourist season and the increase in arrivals this June compared to 2023,” adds the Mayor of Leipsi.

In addition to environmental infrastructure projects, the Municipality is implementing innovative tourist promotion actions. One such initiative is a video clip that combines traditional island music with rap, filmed in Leipsi, which has garnered over 230,000 views.
