Kamala Harris: She gathered the electors needed for her nomination

CNN, Reuters & the Associated Press reported that Kamala Harris gathered 50% of the electors needed

Newsroom July 23 09:31

Investing in her dual moral advantage as a former prosecutor and as a woman who stands with victims of sexism, Kamala Harris launched a fierce attack on Donald Trump. In her first appearance in her capacity as, barring unforeseen circumstances, the Democratic presidential candidate, Harris targeted her opponent by reminding that he has been convicted of a series of serious offenses, including the sexual assault of journalist and author Elizabeth Jean Carroll. Additionally, Kamala Harris herself served for a long time as the head of the prosecution in the state of California.

Shortly after this speech, American media reported that Kamala Harris managed to secure the necessary number of electors to receive the Democratic nomination for the November elections.

The Democratic presidential candidate will be chosen by August 7th.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Jaime Harrison, stated yesterday, Monday, that the party intends to have selected its presidential candidate by August 7th, adding that he commits to an “open” and “fair” process.

“When I announced my candidacy, I said I wanted to win it. Today, I am proud to have secured the broad necessary support to become the Democratic nominee. I look forward to officially accepting the nomination soon,” stated Kamala Harris.

In the same speech in Delaware, Joe Biden also made an appearance, his first public one since recovering from COVID-19. The President of the United States declared, “I will continue to work like hell” both as President and for Harris’s candidacy. He also warned that “Trump still poses a danger” and promised that he would tour to support his Vice President.

Regarding her chances of defeating Trump in their confrontation, the Democratic nomination increasingly seems like a formality for Kamala Harris. The number of prominent Democrats expressing their acceptance and support for her candidacy is growing. The Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, after some initial hesitation, has enthusiastically endorsed Kamala Harris. In her statements, Pelosi described Harris as “brilliantly assertive” and said, “She is the best to defeat Donald Trump.”

However, Harris’s acceptance by the Democratic Party is not universal. The silence from Barack Obama and Michelle Obama is, at least so far, enigmatic. The same goes for George Clooney and other celebrities who typically support Democrats.

High-profile and influential figures like Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Hakeem Jeffries have openly stated that they do not support Kamala Harris’s candidacy. On the other hand, iconic star Barbra Streisand endorses Harris, as do unconventional director Spike Lee, singer John Legend, and others, while Robert De Niro praised Joe Biden for his decision to step down but did not mention Kamala Harris.

Regarding fundraising, immediately after the announcement of Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Harris as his successor, $81 million poured into her campaign fund, setting a record for a new presidential candidate. Equally significant is that a group of powerful women entrepreneurs intends to generously finance Harris’s campaign.

The Democrats are expediting the internal election process for their presidential candidate, aiming to formalize Kamala Harris’s nomination with a vote on August 7th.
