Trial of Karaiwaz: two defendants acquitted due to doubts

Acquittal of Both Defendants in the Murder Case of Journalist Giorgos Karaivaz Due to Doubts

Newsroom July 31 02:10

The Mixed Jury Court acquitted both defendants in the murder case of journalist Giorgos Karaivaz due to reasonable doubts.

The 49-year-old was acquitted by a majority verdict (5-2). The 41-year-old was also acquitted by a majority verdict (6-1), with one dissenting judge. The dissenting opinion came from the presiding judge and one other judge, who believed that the defendant should be found guilty of aiding and abetting murder and illegal possession of a firearm, but acquitted of illegal use of a firearm.
