Kilauea lava river about to hit the town of Pahoa

Some residents have already abandoned their homes

The lava pouring out of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii, destroying everything in its path, is nearing a residential area. The fiery river passed over a cemetery and now moves dangerously towards the town of Pahoa. Authorities warn that its high temperatures could destroy everything in its path, including houses, roads and businesses.

According to the US Geological Survey the lava river reaches temperatures around 900 Celsius.

Authorities advised residents to be ready to evacuate at any moment, while there are many who have already done so.

The lava flow began on the 27th of June and is moving at a pace of 9 hours an hour. The lava river has poured through trees and flora, turning everything to ash, while it has already poured over a cemetery.
