Spain emerged as the new Olympic champion in women’s water polo, winning the gold medal undefeated in Paris. The “La Roja” secured the only title missing from their collection by defeating Australia 11-9 in the final, after having lost in two previous finals (both to the USA) in the last three Olympic events.

The first quarter ended in a 2-2 tie, but the “Stingers” (Australia) went without a goal for 9.5 minutes, with Martina Teré delivering an outstanding performance in goal. Although Spain initially struggled with their power play, they eventually found solutions through the experienced players Bea Ortiz and Maica García, pulling ahead to 7-4 just before the end of the third quarter. Australia attempted a comeback, reducing the deficit to 7-6, but the Spanish team, led by Miguel Oca, extended their lead to four goals (11-7), sealing their historic victory.
