USA: Climber found alive on 4,300-meter mountain despite being abandoned by his companions

The man, according to local authorities, survived despite the harsh weather conditions and the night he spent outdoors

Newsroom August 29 05:39

A climber in Colorado, USA, was found alive on a 4,300-meter mountain despite being abandoned by his companions after he lost his way due to a storm with strong winds and freezing rain, which also left him without cell phone signal.

The incident occurred last week, as reported by the BBC, when around 15 employees from an unidentified company went on a group climb on Mount Shavano, which stands at 4,300 meters.

The climber managed to reach the summit alone around 11:30 AM on Friday but lost his bearings while descending. His colleagues told him he was on the wrong path and advised him to backtrack along the trail.

However, he completely lost his orientation due to the storm, with strong winds and freezing rain, and his phone lost signal.

Authorities were notified at 9:00 PM on Friday, and a large-scale rescue operation began immediately, but it was challenging to locate the man, not only because of the conditions but also because he was wearing black clothing.

The search continued on Saturday morning when he managed to make a call for help. Rescue teams found him injured, as he had reportedly fallen at least 20 times and was unable to walk.

They stabilized him and transported him to a hospital, but his current condition remains unclear.
