Heraklion: seven-year prison sentence for man who killed an elderly person – He was driving drunk without his license

Injured two others within ten days

Newsroom September 16 05:31

A 47-year-old driver was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Heraklion Court for killing an elderly man and injuring two other people in two separate accidents within a 10-day period.

According to the website cretapost.gr, the appeal does not have a suspensive effect, meaning the 47-year-old, who was driving under the influence of alcohol in both incidents, will be sent to prison.

Driving Drunk Without His License

The 47-year-old, who had come to Crete for work on September 3, was in Sitia to visit a friend. After consuming a large amount of alcohol, he rented a car and began his journey back to Heraklion. However, before leaving Sitia, he hit an 85-year-old man who was attempting to cross the road.

The 85-year-old was seriously injured and transferred to Venizelio Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Ten days later, on September 13, the 47-year-old, having rented another car, hit two tourists from the Czech Republic (aged 50 and 25) near the Malia Archaeological Site, injuring them lightly.

Police discovered that the 47-year-old was once again drunk and did not have his driver’s license with him.
