Katerina Sakellaropoulou to Be Honored with Athens’ Democracy Award by Haris Doukas

The Municipality of Athens responded to claims suggesting that the award is politically motivated and connected to Doukas' campaign for the leadership of PASOK

Newsroom October 2 04:30

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, is scheduled to visit the Stoa of Attalos at 18:45, where she will be presented with the “Democracy Award of the City of Athens” by Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, as part of the Athens Democracy Forum. The award recognizes her significant contributions to the promotion of democratic values. The ceremony will take place within the broader context of the Forum, which annually brings together global leaders, policymakers, and intellectuals to discuss the future of democracy.

The Municipality of Athens notes that this award will honor the Greek people for their struggles for democracy and freedom that led to the fall of the dictatorship and the post-apolitical era.

After six statements in less than 24 hours, Dendias and Doukas agree to disagree over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier — next stop…the courts

“It is, unacceptable and shameful that some people attack the President of the Republic and the Mayor of Athens for an event dedicated to the struggles of the Greek people for democracy. It is even more worrying that at a time when the far right is being strengthened across Europe, they are tarnishing such an important anniversary for Greece and its people”,

The municipality of Athens stressed in a statement in response to comments linked to the election campaign of Harris Doukas for the leadership of PASOK.
