Nana Mouskouri Prepares to Retire from Music: “I Think I’ve Done Enough”

"I don't have the right to go on stage and not sing well, even if the audience applauds me," the renowned singer added

Newsroom October 4 05:00

Nana Mouskouri, one of the most iconic voices in global music, has announced her intention to retire from the stage. At almost 90 years old, she shared her decision in an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel.

“I want to give a few more performances, and then that will be it. I think I’ve done enough,” said Mouskouri, reflecting on her long and illustrious career.

The legendary singer also expressed her belief that she should not perform unless she can deliver her best. “I don’t have the right to go on stage and not sing well, even if the audience applauds me,” she added.

Mouskouri will turn 90 on October 13, 2024, and in celebration, an album featuring some of her greatest hits, re-recorded with an orchestra, will be released. “When I listen to these recordings, I can’t hold back my tears,” she said emotionally.

Back in 2008, Mouskouri gave a farewell concert in Athens but soon returned to the stage the following year, admitting she couldn’t stay away from her fans.
