Christos Papadimitriou, a well-known businessman from Kalamata, passed away at the age of 44, having recently fought a courageous battle for his life.

Christos Papadimitriou was the third generation in the company “Papadimitriou X.K. S.A.”, known for its “Kalamata Papadimitriou” products and having significant standardization and export activity in the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, mustard, and other food sectors. He left his mark on the company with the innovations he introduced.

He was married to Sevasti Skoulika, and together they had two children, Konstantinos and Nikola.

His funeral, according to eleftheriaonline.gr, will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Presentation in Kalamata.

The company that was founded in 1939 and thrived under his leadership

In 1939, 29-year-old Christos Papadimitriou founded the company that still exists today in Kalamata. Initially, it focused on the trade and export of local Kalamata products such as dried figs, Kalamata olives, and olive oil. Starting in 1950, the company entered the British, Dutch, and German markets mainly through raisins.

Later, Kostas Papadimitriou took over, and as a winemaker educated in France, he developed the company and created the first Greek balsamic vinegar from Corinthian raisins.

In 2004, it was time for grandson Christos Papadimitriou to take the helm of the company. Under his guidance, new product lines based on balsamic vinegar were developed, such as balsamic creams and Mediterranean mustards.

In striving to maintain the Greek identity of all the company’s products, local products were fully utilized, including extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Greek honey, and fruits from Messinia.

Under his leadership, in 2013, the company joined the international Endeavor network, becoming the first Greek company in the food sector to be a member.
