Fire in the Middle East: Israel strikes Iranian bases in Syria and southern Beirut

We have the right to respond and we will do so, Netanyahu said - Tehran closed Iran's western airspace with a NOTAM

Newsroom October 6 09:28

The Israeli military claimed it targeted Hezbollah weapons depots after carrying out more than 30 strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, in what Lebanese media described as “the most violent night” of attacks.

At least 24 people have been confirmed dead following the bombing of a mosque and a school housing displaced Palestinians by Israeli fighter jets in separate strikes in central Gaza. The Israeli military claimed that the mosque and the school were being used as Hamas “command and control” centers.

The Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that 407 Australians and their family members departed from Beirut overnight on two government-assisted flights.

A man claiming to be a journalist survived after setting himself on fire during a pro-Palestine rally in Washington, saying he did so because he felt complicit in spreading misinformation about the Middle East crisis.

Suspicions of the murder of the Iranian head of the Quds Force – Last seen in Beirut.

Concerns are being raised in Iran and the Middle East regarding the fate of Esmail Qaani, the head of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iran.

According to a report by the New York Times, three anonymous Iranian officials stated that Qaani was last seen in Beirut last week. He had traveled there to support Hezbollah, which has been facing significant losses due to recent Israeli airstrikes. However, rumors have since surfaced that he may have been killed during one of the recent attacks.

Israel reports that it successfully intercepted two surface-to-surface missiles launched from Lebanese territory. Earlier, sirens were reported between Haifa and Hadera along the coast.

The Israeli Army stated that its air forces recently carried out a precise strike against Hamas terrorists operating within a command and control center.

It reported that the center was “embedded in a complex that previously operated as the Ibn Rushd school in the Deir al-Balah area of central Gaza.”

Additionally, the military also executed “a precise strike against Hamas terrorists operating in a command and control center that was embedded in a structure that previously served as the Shuhada Al Aqsa mosque in the Deir al-Balah area,” it mentioned.

“These command and control centers were used by Hamas terrorists to plan and execute terrorist attacks against the Israeli forces and the state of Israel,” the IDF stated.

The army added that before the strike, “numerous measures were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians.”
